Lessons Learnt
Reflections on my own learning
experience
Computer tools for nursing I must
say was a very exigent course, I would like to say I’m happy it has come to an
end however while I’m happy I will not be overwhelmed with assignments I honestly cannot say
I’m really happy its has ended. When I started this course just over eight
weeks ago I thought it was going to be like a computer literacy course somewhat,
I didn’t know what to expect.
My Journey started with discussion
forums so I said 'ok how hard can this be' I then had to respond to my colleagues post which was a learning tool giving much insight as to how others interpreted and presented the same information given. Then came the introduction to nursing informatics a field of nursing I never knew existed,
then there was Microsoft productivity tools some of which I knew but some I had
only opened in the past, but never ventured to use as I had no clue of what
to do with it namely ‘Microsoft excel’. I can now say I know what it is used
for and as time go by I’m going to do pursuit it further to truly grasp it’s working.
I now have an understanding into the use of the telehealth and electronic
health records and the benefits of it for my clients, myself and colleagues. A lesson which truly stuck with me
was the evaluation of sources of information namely the World Wide Web, this
is important to validate your research and give it creditability, it is also
very important so I can identify and make an informed choice when choosing
information to aid in research re the treatment for my patients.
In conclusion I must say in spite of
its many challenges during this course computer tools for nursing, I am happy
to have been introduced to it as I have developed the awareness into a whole
new specialty in my field of nursing. I have gained some knowledge, understanding
and a great appreciation into the use of digital technology which will positively
influence and enhance my professional and personal life. For this I say thank
you Ms. Cudjoe.
